　　对于科学家和游客来说去一些偏远地方比如南极旅游成为了可能。你觉得利是不是大于弊?

　　思路解析

　　这是一道利弊类大作文，题目对于 remote natural environments 给了一个补充 the South Pole 。因此我们可以就极地旅游来探讨其利弊。

　　首先来看好处，有两方面。

　　一是这能带动相关旅游业的发展。极地旅游是没办法一个人独自前往的。因此大概率会涉及到豪华游轮、直升机、酒店住宿等诸多项目，而且价格不低。因此能刺激相关的旅游经济的发展，带动相关产业的就业。同时，极地旅游所能看到的风景、带给人的体验也是人们在日常生活中享受不到的。

　　二是对于科学家来说，极地有着极大的科考价值。科学家们可以在极地展开对于气象、冰川、地质、海洋、生物等方面的科学研究，并且这些研究是在别的地方难以替代的，也因此诸多国家在极地专门设立了科考站。

　　其次来看坏处，极地旅游的坏处也非常明显，就是人为活动所带来的的环境破坏，包括交通工具所带来的燃油泄露、空气污染、污水和垃圾的排放等等，对于当地生态都会造成严重的破坏。因此，制定环保的措施，减少对于环境的破坏是非常必要的。

　　Prompted by breakthrough of technology, including transportation and telecommunication, the prosperity of tourism has created colossal economic rewards, and this tendency has no sign to cease its steps. Recently, the antenna of this industry has extended into remote areas, such as the poles. However, brought by the activities of scientists and tourists, those natural habitats and ecosystem have been encroached and invaded. So, in my opinion, the demerits outstrip the merits.

　　It is undeniable that this kind of tourism, for example the polar cruising which has been prevailing for the recent years have stimulate the tourism industry. Guests are increasingly hopping aboard the ships and expect a first-class experience along with elegant menus, comfortable rooms and additional activities such as diving during the cruise. This makes the ship become bigger to accommodate rising demand and makes cruise more profitable.

　　However, with the increasing number of tourists visiting those places yearly, the cruise also raises the chance of a catastrophe such as oil spill or a sewage leak that would damage the pristine polar environment. This fragile environment is prone to be damaged when human activities influence the local ecosystem. For example, the throwaway products and wasted living material which are tossed away may influence the local ocean ecosystem when ships traverse the Arctic Ocean. Even worse, increased human activity in the Arctic may affect the climate change and inevitably increase the temperature which leads to the melting glaciers and iceberg.

　　As conclusion, it is worried that human activity is threatening the fragile environment in polar areas and other remote areas which are vulnerable. It is a matter of time, not a matter of if. So, the only thing we can do is to reduce the influence on receding ice and rising sea level and protect the pristine area of our planet.
