　　In present-day society, a greater proportion of students are pursuing higher education and obtaining master’s degrees and PhDs. Nevertheless, there is great debate over whether university students ought to concentrate on learning employment or academic skills, which will be further discussed. It has been argued that the main objective of a university education is to obtain a satisfying and well-paid occupation that matches the skillset of the applicant. From this point of view, colleges ought to educate students based on the needs and requirements of companies in the fields that match the majors of students. Furthermore, universities also need to have the ability to predict potential future trends in the market and attempt to create a curriculum that would enable students to have prosperous long-term careers. In this way, universities play a huge role in ensuring that students are able to meet the current and future needs of enterprises.

　　On the contrary, academic skills are also essential in improving students’ abilities and facilitate the crucial skill of being able to learn and pick up new information. In addition, academic abilities enable individuals to achieve success in school, which is one of the major indicators of having a prosperous career. Furthermore, honing academic skills allows students to build confidence in the classroom, which enables them to have greater self-esteem when they enter the workplace. As a result, students who are well-equipped with advanced academic skills have a better foundation and are more well-prepared in their careers.

　　All in all, employment and academic skills are both critical to accomplishing success in school and the workplace. A fair balance between the two would ensure that universities produce more well-rounded graduates who could tackle any challenges they face in the future.
