  雅思写作范文文字版:

Some people believe that rich countries should provide poorer countries with other types of help rather than financial aid. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The seemingly never-ending debate over the responsibilities of wealthy nations towards their poorer counterparts has been taking place for centuries. There are a variety of opinions that support and disagree with the view that affluent countries ought to assist those in need, not merely from a financial standpoint.

One of the reasons that wealthy nations remain well-off is due to their strategic geographic locations, technological expertise and investments in education. Poorer nations tend to lack these ingredients, which are a recipe for continued success in the current globalised economy.

The old adage goes, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Rather than merely providing financial aid, nations ought to educate the poor by providing citizens with knowledge about how to grow their own crops, manufacture textiles and even construct their own homes, in the hopes they can achieve a level of self-sufficiency.

On the contrary, the requirement of a nation to provide financial aid is a duty that is quite difficult to ascertain and quantify. Wealthy nations cannot be forced to give away resources to individuals in faraway lands simply based on humanitarian reasons. Rich nations are wealthy on aggregate, which does not necessarily mean that every citizen is well-off; they have their own problems to solve. Furthermore, international aid sent to poor nations may end up in the wrong hands or may even make the rich richer in impoverished countries, never actually reaching the intended recipients.

From my perspective, beggars can’t be choosers, meaning that the receivers of any form of aid need to accept whatever developed nations are willing to offer. After all, countries allocate resources to impoverished nations based on their willingness to assist and not out of legal obligation.
