　　Fresh water is a limited resource in some parts of the world. Today, increasing demand made it a global problem. What are the causes of increasing demand? What measures can governments and individuals take to respond to the problem?

　　There is an impending trend that global demand for fresh water tend to put the resource in jeopardy. While many factors may contribute to this trend, I will attribute this problem to the growing population and pollution, and then provide some practical suggestions accordingly.

　　To identify the root reasons behind the increasing demand for freshwater on the planet, we need to first understand the status que of population. The past century has witnessed an almost threefold increase in the world population to over 7 billion, which entails enormous demand for water supply; unfortunately, the global storage of this resource has been left behind due to its unrenewable feature. To complicate matters even more, the relentless industrialization and business development act as anther catalyst of water demand, whether it be the usage of chemical reactions, cleaning toxic facilities, swimming poor or water parks.

　　However, the aforementioned problems can be tackled with from both administrative and individual perspectives. Firstly, governments need to legislate against the overuse of freshwater for unnecessary purposes, for example by curb perfume manufacturing or building of entertaining facilities. Not to left behind is the effort of individuals, who should cultivate a sense of environmental protection, and therefore regulate their behaviors with reference to water usage, whether these be water saving, or wastewater recycling.

　　From what has been discussed above, it is my conclusion therefore, the trend towards shortage of fresh water supply is caused by the population explosion and the ensuing pollution; both issues can be properly addressed with the combination of administration measures and self-discipline of individuals.
