考题回忆Some high school teachers spend most of the class time lecturing while the sutdents listen and take notes. Other high school teachers spend most of the class time on discussion and projects that students are highly involved in and exchange ideas. Which of these two approaches do you think is more effective for students’s learning and why?

参考范文High school education has long been considered as one of the key to the progression of society. Many education approaches have been innovatively brought up, aiding the flourishing of education. Field trips incorporated to many curriculums provide students a hands-on experience while discussions in the classroom, another effective way for students to learn compared to lecturing, ensure students understand and stimulate new perspectives.
Discussions largely guaruantee students to comprehend the concepts on the textbooks well, whereas lecturing is a relatively passive way to teach. Indeed, students can write down everything the teacher said, and keep a good record of those keypoints, but students need to understand the class material in order to formulate their opinion instead of jotting down stuff without understanding any of it. For example, the key elements to run a business successfully in business class can be easily memorized. In lectures given by professors, students can learn what they are and how they need to focus on. However, the student might be unable to apply this knowledge to their real life because they do not understand the logic behind it. Yet, if the teacher asks students to discuss on the topic, what types of business they want to set up and what needs to be concerned, students will definitely gain a better understanding of those elements rather than memorizing them mechanically. Therefore, through discussion, the information taught in the lectures can be translated to an applicable skill.
Discussing with others can also teach students to evaluate the issue in a big picture. Although one may be confident enough about his opinions, admitting the wisdom and validaity of opposing claims is very important. If a teacher asks his students to discuss the boons and banes of an affirmative action, the students can all learn something from each other. The positive side may claim that affirmative action projects the rights of monorities. But still, they can learn from the other side that affirmative action puts an abosolute definition on “disadvantaged minority.” After discussing with ones on their opposite, they can sharpen and perfect their arguments. This learning method can benefit both sides and introduce students to a greater variety of perspectives.
Lectures and discussions are both vital for delivering knowledge in terms of educaiting young generations. However, discussion is more effective in consolidating the knowledge since it is very likely to push students to put an abstract theory taught in lectures into pratice and promote students to be more open to different viewpoints.
