　　There is no doubt that the labour market has significantly evolved in the past few decades, offering employees a wider range of jobs in a variety of fields. Some employees choose to spend their entire working lives in one career while others continuously seek new work, of which the pros and cons will be presented.

　　It can be argued that workers who choose their professions early on in life are more focused and aware of what they desire in their lives. These individuals realise what they are excellent at or fascinated in and specialise in that particular field. For certain people in this situation, they are capable of obtaining a high level of job satisfaction as they can spend decades doing what they love. On the contrary, some of these employees might find their field monotonous, whereby doing the same tasks every day offers them few challenges to stimulate their minds.

　　As for workers who are unable to select their passions or realise their potential early, they may choose to recurrently find new jobs rather than stay with one employer for their whole careers. In this scenario, these individuals might be more flexible and adaptable, particularly in new and fresh situations. They meet new people, go to brand-new locations and learn fresh ideas and concepts in greater frequency than those who stay at their jobs for a lifetime. On the other hand, they might struggle to obtain stability in their occupations, including receiving stable pay or benefits, not to mention it may be challenging to achieve specialisation when always leaving and entering a new workplace.

　　Overall, there are merits and demerits to having one job for the rest of one’s life and even shifting to new work on a regular basis. The ultimate decision depends on the employee’s personality, habits and ability to adapt to change.
