　　Contemporarily, it is widely accepted that both governments and individuals play significant but diverse roles for protecting our environment. However, in terms of some global environmental issues, what the general public can do is far insufficient compared with what politicians can contribute.

　　Some may hold the opposite view, asserting that every citizen is the recipient for some environmentally friendly policies that political elites make. This implies that without the related efforts of the public, all those policies can be pointless. To be more specific, whether the public accepts those policies can immediately decide their effectiveness. Nonetheless, the ionic truth is that regarding domestic environmental problems that are closely connected with people’s daily life, this opinion is definitely correct, whereas worldwide environmental issues are obviously different, since they are far from people’s life and even out of their cognition. Therefore, the related behavior of the public is certainly manipulated by politicians.

　　Statesmen are, in most cases, capable of persuading the populace to behave as they want them to, no matter whether they set up eco-friendly or eco-unfriendly policies. For instance, some undeveloped countries function as waste disposal plants, which buy garbage from developed regions, recycle some useful and valuable parts of them, and bury the rest. Without any doubt, those countries have to suffer from huge pollution caused by this process, but politicians only stress to their people how beneficial this is for their economy and employment. This is why India is collecting plastic waste from Europe, (Brazil is burning the Amazon Rain Forest, and the US refuses to strictly control its greenhouse gas emission). No matter how their people are concerned about environmental protection, governments’ decisions are totally controlled by a small group of elites.
