　　The pie chart above compares the major causes for land degradation across the planet. The table illustrates the proportion of total land degraded due to these causes in North America, Europe and Oceania during the 1990s.

　　Globally, land degradation is mainly caused by three causes, which are over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation, accounting for 35%, 30% and 28% espectively. A further 7% of land degradation is due to other factors.

　　It is clear that during the 1990s, Europe was the regon with the most serious land degradation while North America suffered the least. Oceania was affected the most by over-grazing, spoiling 11.3% of the land. By contrast, in North America only 1.5% of and loss was caused by over-grazing. The figure for deforestation in North America was even lower, making up for only 0.2% of land loss, whereas in Europe this was the cause for as much as 9. 8% of land degradation. Similary, Europe with 7. 7%, had the highest proportion of land being degraded because of over-cultivation. However, this had not caused any damage to the land in the Oceania region.

　　Overall, we can see that human activities have had a great Impact on land degradation.
