  题目

Some people think that one of the best ways to solve the worlds environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel of cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or disagree?(20180310)

  范文

In today's society, environmental problems are complicated. Some people believe the price of petrol should be raised to reduce the contamination of the environment. However, I think that this policy is both impractical and unfeasible.

Fossil fuels are something we rely on every day and therefore increasing the cost of fossil fuels will nevitably bring about a great inconvenience to our lives. In turn, this will cause many people to abandon their private vehicles and choose public transportation instead. This will make buses and underground very crowded and may not even work properly, which will mean commuting will take even longer. For example many people work far from where they live. Their place of work may be located in the city centre, but it may take them two hours, or more, to get to work in the morning, which is a common phenomenon. In addition, they live in communities where public transport may be infrequent. Therefore increasing the cost of fuel will cause great inconvenience.

On a different note, some people consider that increasing the cost of fossil fuels is a cure-all solution for the environment. On this account, the fresh air, azure sky, and a limpid brook will return to our lives. However, I am greatly convinced that the above scenario is idealistic and difficult to achieve. Simultaneously, this policy will trigger a domino effect in a range of aspects. From an economic perspectve the development of tourism will be limited, because the prices of airline tickets will rise drastically causing visitors to choose cheaper ways to travel. When it comes to the unemployment rate, this policy will make many people who want to purchase a car give up this idea, because the expense of having their own vehicles is simply too daunting. Thus, this will have a devastating effect on the entire automobile ndustry and many people will lose their jobs.

In conclusion, increasing the cost of fuel for cars may be a short-term solution to environmental issues. Yet, in the long-term it does not work.
