　　In many countries, prison is the most common solution to the problem of crime. However, a more ellective way is to provide people with better educalion so that they cannot become criminals. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (20180303)

　　In our advanced society, how we punish prisoners has attracted the attention of many people. Some believe we should adopt a traditional model, while others believe we should adopt a more humane method of rehabilitation rather than simply punish which is more suitable for this era. For me personally， I prefer the latter.

　　On the one hand，there is no doubt that imprisonment has been used as a means of punishing criminals, and this approach is reasonable and indispensable. The prison has a symbolic meaning, which deters potential criminals from committing crime from the fear of being imprisoned. For example, the high walls-are full of electricity grids and there is 24-hour security with prison guards patrolling the perimeter and criminals have to do a lot of labourious work every day, and then the most important thing is that personal freedom is restricted. Such a tedious scenario may last several years or decades. Never think of yourself as Andy Dufresne or Michael Scofield. Therefore, the prison system as a form of punishment is extremely imperative for any society.

　　On the other hand, I am greatly convinced that education is more effective than imprisonment.  First of all, education can inevitably allow criminals to know what problems they have. In many cases criminals have obstacles in their mind, and their personality defects lead them to commit crimes. Prisons do not have the capacity to re-shape their psychology. Only education can do this. Secondly the tremendous difference between education and imprisonment is that prisons isolate offenders from society, whereas education helps them return to society and gives them the opportunity to restore their own value again.

　　In conclusion, imprisonment is a solution to the problem of crime. But it seems to me that education is a more effective method.

　　现代社会如何惩罚罪犯引起了许多入的关注。一些人认为应该采用传统的模式，而另一些人则认为应该采取更人道的改造方法，而不仅仅是惩罚，这更适合这个时代。就我个人而言，我更喜欢后者。

　　一方面，毫无疑问，监禁一直是惩罚罪犯的手段之一，这种做法合理且必不可少。监狱具有象征意义，可以防止潜在的犯罪分子犯罪，因为他们害怕被监禁。例如，高墙布满了电网，24小时都有狱警在周边巡逻，犯罪分子每天都必须做大量艰苦的工作，最重要的是个人自由受到限制。这种乏味的生活可能要持续数年或数十年。永远不要把自己想象成安迪・杜佛兰(《肖申克的救赎》中的人物，成功越狱)或迈克尔・斯科菲尔德(《越狱》中的人物，带领哥哥成功越狱)。因此，作为一种惩罚形式，监狱系统在任何社会都是至关重要的。

　　另一方面，我深信教育比监禁更有效。首先，教育能让犯罪分子知道他们的问题所在。在许多情况下，犯罪分子的思想存在障碍，人格缺陷导致他们犯罪。监狱没有能力重塑他们的心理，只有教育能做到这一点。其次，教育和监禁之间的巨大差异在于，监狱将罪犯与社会隔离，而教育则帮助他们重返社会，使他们有机会再次重建自己的价值。

　　总之，监禁是解決犯罪问题的一种方式。但在我看来，教育是一种更有效的方式。
