  题目

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on elevision in order to decrease the level of violent crimes in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree. (20170520)

  范文

Over the past few years, people have questioned whether there is too much violence on TV. Some people believe that the govemment should restrict how much violence is shown on television and in movies, to reduce the cnme rate. However, in my opinion reducing the amount of violence shown on the screen will have a negative effect on society

Firstly, if the government restricts the amount of violent scenes shown in a film, sales will decline because the whole viewing experience will not be the same. For example, the biggest selling point in an action movie is its intense fighting scenes. If such scenes have been cut, then the viewers may find the film quite boring. In fact, the whole movie industry will be affected if such restrictions are enforced in the action movie, as this genre is essential to the film Culture. Also, the effect of the violent scenes nave on adults is rather minimal. Most adults like to watch moves that contain violence for entertainment, and adults can distinguish between real life and fiction who will not be easily affected by such images. There is no evidence proving that watching violent movies leads to committing crime.

On the other hand, although I think that violent scenes should not be cut out of a movie, it IS necessary to use a film classification system when the movie Is eleased. Obviously, teenagers often lack the ability to make rational judgement. There is a possibility that they may imitate behaviour shown in films they watch. Therefore, the harm this kind of movie can have on society can be effectively controlled when a film classification system IS put in place.

In conclusion, violence in movies should not simply be restricted, but a more scientific grading system should be adopted. So, I disagree with the views stated above that some violent scenes should be cut out of films
