　　With the development of urbanisation, many esidents have moved into high-nise buildings in the cities. However, according to many city dwellers people in these apartment blocks rarely socialise with each other. This has aroused the interest of some sociologists, and made them want to find out the causes and, if this is a problem, any possible solutions

　　There are two causes that are closely related to such phenomenon. To begin with, modern communication technologies have completely changed the way people communicate. It is clear that the Internet has accommodated plenty of famous social media platforms, transfering a great volume of communication data across the globe. On top of all this, today people spend hours on virtual communities. with no time left for them to socialise with their neighbours, in their real communities.

　　Another reason is that the city planning for housing usually makes it even more difficult to interact with other residents. To be more specific, the population density of cities and surrounding suburbs is much higher than rural areas, which means that property developers are trying to fit more people into high rise apartments. Consequently, in the city, areas to socialise are very few and far between.

　　Experts are now suggesting that action needs to be taken to deal with this problem. First, the local council should plan for and build more public areas or social events. The locals could enjoy chatting with their neighbours and other outdoor activities.

　　Another effective way to bring people together is by utilising social media groups or forums. For example residents who come from the same suburb or region can establish an online forum, on which they can share live news and updates specifically for the local community, and more importantly they can organise more off-line events night at their fingertips.

　　Overall, people need to understand that with the growing speed technology and the expanding modem cities, the way people communicate will inevitably change too. To prevent this problem from getting worse, people need to take immediate action before it is too late.
