　　While international news is supposed to be a compulsive course in middle school, others see it as nothing more than a waste of time. I would say both views could be deemed justified, depending on discrete needs of individual students.

　　To know what’s happening on the planet does have its relevance to students who expect to enroll in social sciences or related majors in college. These majors require applicants to have a wide breadth of knowledge beside basic academic skills, whether it be cultures, economic status, politics or religion in different nations. In response to this, the study of news in different countries seems to be a fairly effective way for students to obtain information of these realms simultaneously. For example, by analyzing the new decisions of China and the US about the ongoing trade war, learners can establish an in-depth understanding of the socioeconomic status of both sides.

　　However, what seems attractive and fascinating to some can be totally repulsive to others – there do exist students who consider the learning of international news as time-wasting. The interest in social science is not universally applicable to every teenager; it would be absurd to oblige one to study what might be irrelevant to his or her future career – how can we force a student who opts for engineering to spend time on studying the current war in middle east? Also, let’s not be oblivious to the study pressure on some middle school students. To add an extra class on curriculum may exacerbate the heavy school load for some students who have already been inundated with other compulsory courses.

　　It is my conclusion therefore, whether to incorporate international news to middle school curriculum is not an either-or issue; it should vary by the conditions of individual students.
