　　Today, many films and games are inundated with violent content. Some people regard them as detrimental to society and should be banned, whereas others see them as nothing more than a leisure activity. I would say neither opinion is logical enough to depict the entire picture – it is simplistic to jump to either conclusion without considering the context.

　　It is a generalization, from my perspective, to associate media violence to a blight on society and call for a ban. The so-called “a negative effect on society” is an ambiguous claim – society is an abstract term that can to be viewed from different dimensions. Some might point to the apprehension that a long exposure to media violence desensitizes users; nevertheless, this is not the case when considered from a business perspective – such games and films have spawned multiple industries, whether these be blockbusters to international tournaments of video games, not to mention the job opportunities created by these businesses. At this point, I don’t think it would necessarily benefit the society should these media products be banned.

　　By the same token, it is also an oversimplification to equate media violence with pure leisure and leave them unchecked. It makes sense for adult audience occupying the discernment to see violent in films as harmless relaxation. Unfortunately, this opinion is not applicable to young minds who are susceptible to media and may act out scenarios presented on screen. In this respect, the ramification of media violence is something beyond pure leisure and requires administrative intervention, such as rating systems that prohibit minors from watching films relevant to violence without the accompany of parents.

　　It is my conclusion therefore, to venerate either opinion over the other is illogical – how to deal with media violence is conundrum that needs to take into account the different contexts where the topic is in discussion.
